Associate attorney Allyson J. (Ally) Abernathy was recently appointed Co-Chair of the National Association of Bond Lawyers’ Associate Network

Associate attorney Jenny Costa Honeycutt was named to the board of the Charleston Boys & Girls Club and will chair their Book Drive. She will also serve on the Ashley Hall Centennial Committee.

Associate attorney David C. Humphreys III was named to the City of Charleston’s Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design.

Shareholder Todd W. Smyth was featured in the Leader Spotlight section of The Defense Research Institute’s (DRI) publication, The Voice, April 16, 2008, edition.

Shareholder Elizabeth J.V. (Liz) Speidel will be speaking at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce HR Conference in May at Hilton Head on Conducting an Employee Relations Audit and then again at the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce HR Institute in August.

Shareholder James H. (Jeddie) Suddeth III recently graduated from Leadership South Carolina, was re-appointed to the Government Relations Committee of the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association (SCCIA), and recently appointed to the Programs Committee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) South Carolina.

Shareholder William C. (Bill) Boyd will receive the "Ambassador of the Year" by the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce on May 16. The chair-elect of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce also received the Compleat Lawyer (Platinum Award) from the USC School of Law. The award is given to lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and who exemplify the highest standards of professional competence, ethics and integrity.

Shareholder Joseph D. (Joe) Clark is spearheading a seminar, Corporate Law for Accountants, in Columbia on October 9, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Topics will include "Structuring Physician Compensation Plans" and "What Every Accountant Should Know About Securities."

Associate attorney Trey Turner was elected Chair of the American Bar Association – TIPS Section – Products, Liability, General Liability, and Consumer Law Committee.

Greenville associate attorney Stephen J. (Seph) Wunder, Jr. and Columbia associate attorney William R. (Will) Johnson recently published a number of articles for a new Lexis treatise on state and local tax. Their contributions address economic development incentives available under South Carolina law. Shareholder Stephen F. McKinney was recently appointed chair of the Drug, Device and Biotechnology Committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). This organization has served a distinguished membership of corporate and insurance defense attorneys since 1920. Its activities benefit the approximately 2,500 invitation-only, peer-reviewed members and their clients as well as the civil justice system and the legal system.

Shareholder Steven T. Moon was appointed to a 3 year term on the South Carolina Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization.

Associate attorney Sarah M. Montgomery presented at the American Bar Association’s Forum Committee on Construction at its annual meeting April 24-26 in La Quinta, CA.

The Board of Governors of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers has elected Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd’s Managing Director, Anne S. Ellefson, a Fellow of the College. She also received the Compleat Lawyer Award on April 17.

Shareholder and leader of the Firm’s Healthcare Industry Group, Matthew P. (Matt) Utecht leads the Healthcare Industry Group at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. His article, "Medicine in a Fishbowl," was published in the April edition of South Carolina Business. Utecht, who regularly advises hospital leaders and physicians, wrote for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce publication a timely analysis of today's healthcare system addressing medical errors and ethics, legislation, payment plans, and Medicare's response to substandard care.
